Forest Steel Crane Hood Will Save You Big Time
In 2001, we handcrafted our very first crane hood in Finland. This blue-colored open air crane weather shelter is suitable for almost all timber crane models. It is easy to install and very affordable. High-strength aluminium profile and back piece makes it extremely lightweight (only 25 kg in total) helping you save a lot of money. The weatherproof material protects against direct sunlight. In addition to the sun, it gives shelter from rain, wind and snow. Read more about advantages and why it is beneficial for you.
Forest Steel Crane Hood is designed for attachment and use in different forest cranes that are used for loading timber, such as Loglift (Hiab), Kesla, Jonsered, Cranab, Epsilon – to ensure your crane operator’s protection. The crane hood is also called a high seat weather protection hood, weather shelter or weather shield as it protects its user from all weather conditions – sun, wind, rain or snow. It is an excellent alternative to a crane cabin, that’s why many call it an “open air crane cabin” as well.
The idea first came in 2001 from the company’s founder and former CEO, O. Mäkelä who said:
“I wanted to create a light-weight, low-cost and easier to install crane hood that is suitable for most cranes out there. Since then, there has been a high demand for the product and it has been wonderfully received by customers. This continues even now throughout Europe, Serbia and Russia. It was specifically created keeping in mind the wishes and needs of the customer.”
We have previously made Forest Steel Crane Hood with two windows and without. From this year forward we mainly manufacture the model with two windows. This ensures the best possible visibility for the crane operator. Our customers prefer this model as they find it safer – giving them more benefits. Talking about benefits. Why should you consider buying a crane hood?
Advantages of Forest Steel Crane Hood
Forest Steel Crane Hood has many advantages compared to classic crane cab. Firstly, it will save you tons of money and time. Imagine this, you have ten forestry cranes and buy all of them ten cabins – this will cost you around 200 000 euros in total. Now, if you get the same amount of high seat weather protection hoods – you provide protection for your workers at a 96,5% lower price! Not to mention that all of these expensive cabins need window cleaners etc (roughly cost 1000 euros a year).
Secondly, a classic crane cabin is generally heavy weighted and will not allow you to transport as much weight as the crane hood. For each timber crane, the save here for one load would be around 200 kg. For example if you work 200 days in a year and make 2 loads every day, you would make 400 wood loads in total. That equals up to 80 000 kg more load than with a classic crane cabin. Money and time – saved big time! Let’s make another example: if you make 1000 loads with this light-weighted “cabin” vs classic heavy-weighted cabin the save is massive – 200 000 kilograms worth!
Finally, although the high seat weather protection hood is open in front, the construction is windproof. Since the backing is made of ultra durable aluminium and the flow of wind inside the space is minimized – the crane operator is protected against impact, hard wind, falling objects and swinging loads from the crane. In addition, the crane hood offers good visibility and accessibility for the crane operator (in opened up or folded in position). The use of a wind, snow and rain cover can be used only when there is a need for such and thus it is not necessary in good weather.
Forest Steel Crane Hood has long service life and its good design allows for quick and easy assembly: gets mounted on the high seat. Most importantly, it is affordable and helps you save lots of money now and in the future. So why not try it out for yourself? See more here: https://foreststeel.ee/en/crane-hood/
